The general system requirements apply to the processing of documents in BMD NTCS FIAC (paperless posting/incoming invoice management) unless other system requirements are mentioned explicitly, like for OCR processing.
1. OCR processing
For processing OCR or QR codes on your computer, the hardware prerequisites we recommend differ from our general system requirements. Among other things, we recommend a powerful workstation if you want OCR processing to be faster.
If a terminal server is used, you have to make sure that each user working with OCR has enough resources in terms of CPU and storage. This also applies to processing via an OCR batch.
- Workstation: Intel Pentium i9 (the more CORES the faster) or higher
- Terminal server: up-to-date Intel XEON CPU
- A minimum of 4 GB of free storage space and 16 GB of installed RAM for OCR or for the OCR batch
- You have to use BMD Scan for OCR.
- We recommend running the document processing in BMD Scan on a local drive.
- Windows 11 (64-bit version) or an up-to-date terminal server OS with .NET Framework 4.8 or higher
2. Scanner
Preparing documents for OCR and using a high-quality document scanner increases both the OCR hit rate and speed. Specialised document scanners and the image enhancement software built into the TWAIN driver are crucial for fast and exact OCR processing.
3. Run a USB scanner via a terminal server or BMD Cloud
You can use a special program to connect the scanner installed on your computer with BMD Scan to the terminal server or to the cloud.
The tool BMDRemoteApp can be downloaded from www.bmd.com/bmdremoteappupdate/ and needs to be installed on the computer to which the scanner is connected.
- The scanner must be registered in BMD Scan via the IP address.
- The computer to which the scanner is connected must have a static IP address so the scanner can be found again after restarting the computer.
- For this, a scanner is required that supports TWAIN and has a 32-bit or 64-bit TWAIN driver. This software has to be installed on the computer to which the scanner is connected.
4. Recommended scanners in terminal/cloud mode
If scanning with the BMDRemoteApp for terminal/cloud environments is not possible (due to weak clients or thin clients with an alternative operating system), we recommend standalone document scanners.
5. Monitor
From our experience, we recommend the use of two monitors with 22″ (ideally 24″ or more) to be able to work with documents efficiently. In this case, the computer must be able to support two monitors.
6. Special feature/work process
BMD Scan uses a storage directory to save certain documents in a predefined location (the storage path). In BMD NTCS FIAC (e.g. incoming invoice management, posting) and other tools, you can then assign those documents. An increasing number of accounting documents are provided digitally and uploaded—partly automatically—via the “Databox document tray”.
When you start BMD Scan, the documents uploaded to the Databox document tray are saved to the “Databox download path”. You can define the Databox download path in the following parameter:
TOOLS → Tools → Settings → TOOLS parameters → Databox → General → Databox download path
