Environmental responsibility
BMD implements diverse measures and solutions that contribute to the protection of resources and the environment.
Working with BMD Cloud – secure and sustainable
- In terms of data centres, BMD relies on leaders in terms of energy efficiency: Microsoft (Azure) and A1 are committed to operate their data centres with 100% renewable energy.
- Sharing servers significantly improves IT infrastructure utilisation.
- Working with BMD Cloud eliminates the need to purchase costly on-site servers.
- Digital processes can help you work more resource-efficiently, e.g. by reducing the use of paper.
- Digital collaboration—e.g. between client and accounting firm—boosts your efficiency: all stakeholders benefit from more time and can focus on their core tasks.
ESG screening tool
Our ESG screening tool analyses and visualises relevant data from various BMD software packages, e.g. from accounting or payroll accounting. In no time, you will gain a clear overview of existing measures and a solid basis for making decisions regarding further resource- and cost-saving initiatives.
Protecting resources & environment: projects and initiatives
- We use internal communication channels to raise awareness among employees about sustainability and to share advice on saving energy, correct waste sorting, efficient heating, and more.
- Employees can rent e-bikes end e-scooters
- Employees have the opportunity to lease a company bike
- Interns receive a monthly ticket for public transport
- We focus on buying sustainable consumables and hygiene products
- We support a local beekeepers’ association and trainee beekeepers
- Project “Wald4Leben”: a tree is planted for onboarding new employees or for company anniversaries
“We view sustainability as an ongoing and multifaceted process. First, we make a contribution by using high-performance software, renewable energy and efficient data centres. Secondly, social responsibility, equal opportunities and employee satisfaction are a core element of our corporate culture.”
Philip Hauser, Sustainability Officer at BMD
Social responsibility
BMD is aware of its social responsibility towards its employees and society.
Focusing on people
“Healthy, happy employees make BMD a healthy, thriving company.” Our success is built on our employees. Defined values, autonomous ways of working and a wide range of benefits create an environment allowing potentials to be recognised, leveraged and fostered.
We also embrace women’s empowerment: among our employees, 50% are women and over 40% of our managers are female.
We are also particularly proud that more than 40% of all employees have been a part of BMD for more than 10 years. At the same time, BMD welcomes 30–60 new colleagues every year due to our continuous growth.
Together, we foster a culture of appreciation where diversity and team spirit are embraced.
Health, development, team spirit
We believe in long-term collaboration and offer flexitime, individual working time models, continuous development opportunities and support for balancing family, career and personal life.
BMD is among the companies of the BGF charter (betriebliche Gesundheitsförderung, a program for promoting health in companies) and holds the BGF seal since 2014. We offer numerous initiatives for promoting physical and mental health—we offer healthy meals, sports activities, ergonomic workstations and support by psychologists.
Regular employee surveys help us maintain active feedback channels. Annual employee appraisals play a vital role in personal exchange, boosting motivation and encouraging professional growth of our employees.
With yearly trainings for our managers, we make sure that they are continuously enhancing their skills and management style and that they know how to promote the strengths of their teams.
At BMD, we promote open communication on equal terms and mutual respect which enable us to ensure the well-being of our customers, employees and partners.
Our priority is to ensure our employees remain highly satisfied. Since BMD is among the most popular employers in Austria, we actively foster our employees’ well-being and development—this commitment is also recognised by independent institutions.
We rely on the innovative power of our employees and encourage everyone to bring new ideas to the table and to contribute actively to our internal innovation management.
We are committed to the ongoing training and development of our employees. Apart from specialised trainings, BMD employees are encouraged to take part in internal and external education and training courses.
Room for diversity & individuality
BMD is a certified family-friendly employer. For BMD, being family-friendly means our employees can pursue family and career at the same time. This can be achieved thanks to e.g. flexible working hours, work from home, parental leave (incl. the so-called “Papamonat”) and parental part-time work.
Moreover, we see it as our responsibility to support our employees in all life circumstances and family situations—such as childcare or caring for relatives—by offering flexible working arrangements that suit their current needs.
We promote equal opportunities and rights for everyone, regardless of their gender, age, cultural background, nationality, religion, physical or mental disabilities or impairments and ways of life. Our software products are used by people from various backgrounds.
We make business easy: Through diverse teams, we bring different perspectives to our work and develop products that make everyday tasks easier for a wide range of users.
We view accessibility as an opportunity to drive innovation, embrace diversity and foster an inclusive work environment. Our goal is to remove barriers and ensure that everyone can work without limitations. Our recruiting team is also happy to welcome candidates who live with some kind of disability or impairment.
Promotion of young talents & social initiatives
Some examples of our activities to support young talent include CoderDojo, the Children’s University Upper Austria, the Dual Academy of the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO) and our in-house apprentice training program. We also support schools by providing technical equipment and offer innovative internships like the BMD Future Lab.
In addition to fostering professional knowledge, we are committed to promoting safety and well-being for young people—for example through fire extinguisher drills for children, first-aid courses and parent-child workshops.
Some examples of our charitable projects:
- Fundraising campaigns for local families in need
- Support for the Youth Red Cross and annual blood donation events
- We take part in the Recycling4smile initiative of RED NOSES Austria
- Eyeglass donation box, supporting people with impaired sight around the world without access to glasses
- Computer and notebook donations to the association “PCs für alle”, local schools and “CoderDojo”
- Support for cultural and sports clubs as well as other regional projects
- Covering our employee’s registration fees for charity sports events
Corporate governance
At BMD, we place great importance on transparent and ethical corporate governance.
Uniting values and principles
Clear structures, security and sustainable decision-making are essential to a partnership built on trust, transparency, fairness and integrity.
Responsible corporate governance fosters an environment where personal growth and innovation can thrive.
Fair collaboration
Guided by our core values, we are committed to reliable, solution-oriented partnerships with our stakeholders. A respectful and appreciative approach forms the foundation for maintaining lasting and sustainable business relationships.
The values we stand for play a key role in choosing our suppliers. Purchasing decisions are based not only on quality and price but also on social and environmental factors—such as the use of renewable energy and electric transport. Environmental protection and the use of sustainable resources are essential to us. BMD does not tolerate any unlawful behaviour.
Certain departments, workgroups and teams collaborate to ensure that the values and practices outlined in our Code of Conduct are successfully embedded and put into practice throughout the company.
Stability for customers and employees
Since its founding in 1972, BMD has grown into one of the leading business software providers in German-speaking Europe. Today, more than 30,000 users across various industries rely on our intelligent software solutions to streamline their daily work processes.
Quality, opportunity and risk awareness
We are committed to continuously improving our products and services. New products are launched only after thorough evaluation and extensive testing. User feedback plays a key role in the continuous improvement of our products and services. We also maintain close communication with our customers through various channels and events.
At BMD, employees are encouraged to report potential risks or untapped opportunities at any time—easily and confidentially if desired. This helps us maintain the highest level of quality for our customers.
Our security measures and protocols are based on the ISO 27001 standard, which has been firmly established at BMD since 2016. Raising awareness and strengthening security knowledge among our employees—as well as our sales and training partners—is of great importance to us. Annual, and in some cases mandatory, security training sessions, internal guidelines and audits ensure the highest level of data and information protection.
We also take great care to ensure that our employees work in a safe and secure environment.
To secure our position as a competitive and dependable employer, we actively leverage the innovative potential of our employees. We specifically act on opportunities that arise from customer input or from projects like the BMD Future Lab.
