Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 24.09.2025
This accessibility statement applies to the following website: https://www.bmd.com.
Information on Compliance with the Accessibility Act
We are committed to making our website accessible in accordance with the applicable Accessibility Act (BaFG), which implements the European Accessibility Directive (EU 2019/882) on the accessibility requirements for products and services. To this end, we have aligned our website as closely as possible with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.
Non-Accessible Content
The following content is not fully accessible for the reasons outlined below:
a. Incompatibility with Accessibility Requirements
- PDF and Office Documents: Many documents (particularly older files) available on our website are not accessible. For example, PDFs lack proper tagging, making them difficult or impossible for screen reader users to navigate. This fails to meet WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). If you require assistance with inaccessible documents, please contact us at bmd@bmd.com. We will endeavor to provide the content in an alternative, accessible format.
- Videos: Videos embedded via external providers (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube) may lack captions, preventing deaf or hard-of-hearing users from accessing spoken content. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.2.2 (Captions for Prerecorded Media). For newly produced videos, we are prioritizing the inclusion of captions.
- Spam Protection/ReCAPTCHA: To prevent spam and mass emails, our contact forms use a "ReCAPTCHA" feature, which is not fully accessible. This violates WCAG Success Criterion 3.3.8 (Accessible Authentication). If you are unable to use a form due to this feature, please email us at bmd@bmd.com or call 43 50 883.
- Text Contrast (CI Constraints): Some text and background colors, derived from our corporate identity (CI) guidelines, do not meet the required contrast ratios. This fails to satisfy WCAG Success Criterion 1.4.3 (Minimum Contrast).
- Inconsistent Reading Order: Headings in text-slider elements with images are currently placed consecutively in the website code, followed by their associated content. This disrupts the logical connection between headings and content for screen reader users and other assistive technologies, partially violating WCAG Success Criterion 1.3.2 (Meaningful Sequence).
- Missing Table Headers: Tables in technical documentation visually identify header cells but lack proper markup for screen readers, preventing correct association between headers and content. This does not fully meet WCAG Success Criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
- Inconsistent Focus Order: In some cases, keyboard focus does not follow the expected logical sequence (e.g., the Floating Action Button). This violates WCAG Success Criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order).
b. Disproportionate Burden:
- Due to economic and organizational constraints, we are currently unable to retrofit older PDF and Office documents for accessibility.
- Videos (Audio Description for Prerecorded Media): Providing audio descriptions for our extensive video library is not feasible at this time. This does not comply with WCAG Success Criterion 1.2.5 (Audio Description for Prerecorded Media). We consider remedying this issue a disproportionate burden under accessibility regulations.
c. Content Outside the Scope of Applicable Legislation
- Archived Documents and Content: Older documents and content published before 28.06.2025 are exempt from the Accessibility Act and are not scheduled for comprehensive updates.
- Third-Party Content: Our website includes documents and content from third-party providers that we neither develop, fund, nor control. We cannot guarantee their compliance with accessibility standards, and they are likewise exempt from the Accessibility Act.
