For the procedure described below, all users have to be logged out of BMD NTCS.
First, you have to reinstall BMD NTCS on the new computer/server using an up-to-date data medium for initial installation. Please make sure to follow the installation instructions provided with the installation medium. If possible, it is advisable to use the same paths as on the previous system. Ideally, you do not have to change the computer name, for then it will not be necessary to alter any paths and no clients in the network will need adjustment.
CAUTION!
An update DVD does not contain the SQL installation files that you need for reinstalling BMD NTCS. You can request a data medium for initial installation and your licence key from the BMD update department (update@bmd.at).
The automatic BMD NTCS setup solely installs SQL Server 2014 or SQL Server 2016 depending on which operating system is in use/compatible. Setup determines this automatically.
If you want to move from Oracle, please contact BMD Technik.
Before moving BMD NTCS you have to back up the database on the old system. To do this, follow the steps below:
Windows 7 / server 2008 R2 or earlier versions:
Start → Programs → Microsoft SQL Server 20xx → start SQL Server Management Studio.
Windows 8 / server 2012 or later versions:
Enter ‘SQL Server Management Studio’ in the search dialogue of the Metro user interface or use the arrow buttons to search the entry and start it.
Alternatively, you can find the program in Windows Explorer under the following path:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 20xx
Replace “20xx” with the respective SQL version in use.
CAUTION!
If Windows User Account Control (UAC) is active, you have to start SQL Server Management Studio by right-clicking and selecting ‘Run as administrator’!
Next, expand the tree structure to display the section ‘Databases’ and right-click on the BMD database → Tasks → Back Up…
Under ‘Options’ enable ‘Overwrite all existing backup sets’ and ‘Verify backup when finished’:
There is a progress display in the bottom left corner.
After the backup you should receive the following notification:
Now you have to copy the SQL backup file from the old to the new system.
In addition, the complete content of the BMDNTCS_PGMDATA share has to be transferred.
If you also use the document management system (DMS), you need to copy the respective folders as well.
The paths used can be found in BMD NTCS under
Tools → Administration → Paths
Then start SQL Server Management Studio on the new system and right-click on the BMD database → Tasks → Restore → Database…
Select the SQL backup of the old system and make the following settings:
Under ‘Options’ select ‘Overwrite the existing database’ and ‘Close existing connections to destination database’ and make sure that ‘Take tail-log backup before restore’ is not enabled.
There is a progress bar in the top-right corner:
When the process is completed you should receive the following notification:
After restoring the database on the new system you have to start the program \BMDSoftware\BMDDBUpdate.exe once and set the ‘Login mode’ to ‘WindowsLogin’.
After the login you can change all entries of the server name as well as the stored UNC paths under
Extras → Various search routines → Change server name and net path...
Once this is done, you can start BMD NTCS.
Next, please check the following paths:
Tools → Administration → Paths
Tools → Administration → Parameter → Overview of all Tools parameters → Overall system → General settings → BMD NTCS-service
Tools → Administration → Parameter → Overview of all Tools parameters → Overall system → General settings → BMD 5.5 Parameter
