BMD: Using BMD software on a Mac

There are clearly defined system prerequisites that include the requirements for the operating system. These are relevant to successfully using our products.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to install BMD or a BMD client directly on a Mac. There are, however, alternative options.

For you to be able to use BMD products successfully on a Mac, there are various solutions. We recommend using the Cloud services–this is the most successful solution.

• If you opt for the BMD Cloud services and for using the BMD products in the  ASP environment: The BMD Cloud services are an IT solution run by our IT team. Using a protected connection and an access tool, you can access our server directly and use all BMD products in your own environment. The required access tool can be downloaded for free (simply search for remote desktop + mac in any search engine). • You can also opt for providing the BMD software yourself via a Windows terminal server. In case you already need to provide other programs via a Windows terminal server in your network, you only have to clarify (based on the system requirements) whether the BMD products can be installed there additionally.
   
• For the operating system on a Mac (with Intel processor), there are virtualisation tools for Windows applications. All of these tools work according to the same principle. They simulate a computer where a genuine Microsoft Windows will be installed (Please note: a valid Windows licence is required!). You can then install the BMD software on this Windows. For better usability, some tools like VMWare Fusion offer the possibility to start applications as if they ran directly on the Mac. This means, the window looks the same as any application directly running on a Mac. As a downside of this solution, you need the virtualisation tool as well as a separate Windows licence.

In summary, you can either use a terminal server or a virtualisation tool to run BMD on Mac. However, our BMD Cloud services are the quickest way to get a reliable and maintenance-free BMD environment with great performance on a Mac.
