Installation guide BMD RemoteScan

1. General information

More and more tax offices and companies run BMD NTCS via a terminal server. In some cases they even use a cloud solution for working remotely.

There are two approaches for benefiting from digital document processing via BMD Scan in an environment like this:

  1. Using network-compatible multi-function printers (MFPs) that have functions like Scan2Folder and/or Scan2Mail. In this case, the scanned documents are directly stored on the server and then imported into BMD NTCS.

  2. Using local workplace scanners for which BMD RemoteScan creates a direct interface between the scanner that is locally connected to the client and BMD NTCS which is run on the terminal server. Thus, the scanners can be accessed directly via BMDScan.

The following section explains the second approach and describes which steps to take locally on the client as well as remotely on the terminal server in BMD NTCS.

2. Requirements

Operating system:

  • Windows 7 SP1 and .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later versions

Scanners:

  • TWAIN drivers (WIA or ISIS are not supported)

3. Installation

The installation setup can be found under: https://ftp.bmd.com/ntcs/BMDRemoteScan

After successful installation – by default in C:\BMDRemoteApp – it starts automatically and you can operate it by right-clicking the tray area in the taskbar on the bottom right.

The application runs by default on TCP port 3719 which is automatically opened in Windows Firewall.

If you prefer a different port, you will have to adjust the file BMD.ini in the installation directory:

    [BMDRemoteApp]

    Port=6666

4. Configuration

In BMD NTCS under CRM → DMS → BMD Scan → Settings → Register scanner:

Either click on the button ‘Register’ or use F5 and then enter the IP address or the name of the client computer.

If you want to use a different port, you have to add it after a colon (“:”), e. g.: 192.168.0.100:6666

If the scanner was found, it will appear in this list:

Depending on manufacturer and driver, the devices often have two or more interfaces and sometimes all available interfaces are listed. However, as mentioned before, this approach can only be used with TWAIN interfaces.

Next, you have to activate RemoteScan and select the scanner under

→ Settings → Scanner default settings:

Here you can configure additional options, such as for instance resolution (DPI), colour scheme, output format and compression.

If everything has been set up correctly, you can now access your local scanner via the terminal server.

→ Start → Scan document
